Cruella first reactions praise the wickedly entertaining film
May 14, 2021 by: Kevin Fraser

I haven’t been entirely sure what to think of CRUELLA; after all, this is a film that focuses on a character who has become notorious for murdering dogs, but based on the first reactions to the live-action Disney film, I shouldn’t hold a little dog murdering against it. Our own JimmyO caught the film and seemed to have an absolute blast, praising Cruella as one of the biggest and best surprises of the year. You can check out Jimmy’s reaction, as well as plenty of others, below!

@JimmytotheO has seen the delightful @cruella! One of the biggest and best surprises of the year! #EmmaStone is perfection, and #EmmaThompson is exceptional! It may take a bit to get going, but once it does you are in for a hell of a show! Wickedly wild, it’s a darkly comic joy! pic.twitter.com/nR7Rg9XLTW

#Cruella is #Joker meets #TheDevilWearsPrada and possibly the best live-action #Disney movie yet. #EmmaStone is just mind-blowing, and #EmmaThompson matches her every step of the way. This movie is something special… @cruella pic.twitter.com/5qvHSkYj9A

— Josh Wilding (@Josh_Wilding) May 14, 2021

I also have to mention @PaulWHauser, because he’s a real highlight and so, so funny (I’d say the same about @FryJoel too). Wonderful double act who play off #EmmaStone perfectly. #Cruella is going to be the biggest surprise of the summer. pic.twitter.com/JOwJeElD9f

— Josh Wilding (@Josh_Wilding) May 14, 2021

#Cruella is absolutely divine. Deliciously devilish, wonderfully wicked, undeniably outrageous. Emma Stone & Emma Thompson are truly an iconic pairing & they play it to the hilt. Costume designer Jenny Beavan deserves 3rd billing. Plus, it’s got a killer soundtrack. @cruella pic.twitter.com/N5UFEnmSr1

— Courtney Howard (@Lulamaybelle) May 14, 2021

#Cruella is the spiritual successor to THE DEVIL WEARS PRADA. Audaciously reshapes the infamous villain’s narrative. Nods to the animated classic are FUN. A punk glam attitude courses through the picture, from technical aspects (POPS on the big screen!) to character construction. pic.twitter.com/mmnWj8FIWD

— Courtney Howard (@Lulamaybelle) May 14, 2021

.@PaulWHauser and @FryJoel are terrific as Horace and Jasper in #Cruella . They’re animated without being “cartoony,” giving their supporting characters multi-faceted internality & introspection. They’re heart and humor. pic.twitter.com/otlVTAdATZ

— Courtney Howard (@Lulamaybelle) May 14, 2021

#Cruella is a wickedly fun watch w/ amazing costumes & an epic soundtrack. Emma Stone and Emma Thompson are exceptionally evil & hilarious, and they make the movie memorable. Also, Paul Walter Hauser steals scenes, as he tends to do. It’s like a Disneyfied DEVIL WEARS PRADA pic.twitter.com/dUSjlVlgsu

— Erik Davis (@ErikDavis) May 14, 2021

Categorizing #Cruella as great isn’t hyperbolic. Because it’s great.

Incredibly directed and crafted — wouldn’t shock me if it scored Best Production Design and Best Costume Oscar noms — and well acted: everyone is having fun and that fun imprints itself on the film’s DNA. pic.twitter.com/tGJLyeMWzW

— Eric Italiano (@ericitaIiano) May 14, 2021

The soundtrack is excellent, the use of dogs is both adorable and inventive, the humor is sharp, and the IP is irrelevant: #Cruella stands and can be enjoyed on its own.

And, of course, the Emma Stone (and Thompson) of it all: they’re the best part.

People will love this movie. pic.twitter.com/ofOUqgeXTW

— Eric Italiano (@ericitaIiano) May 14, 2021

#Cruella is an ABSOLUTELY GORGEOUS film! Every outfit is STUNNING & fits perfectly in the London punk rock era. Emma Stone is FLAWLESS as Cruella & her version blows Glenn Close’s version out of the water! The soundtrack is FIRE!????

Don’t miss the post credit scene! WOW! @cruella pic.twitter.com/2YJfP7pwzu

— Tessa Smith – Mama’s Geeky (@MamasGeeky) May 14, 2021

The story is extremely well done with fantastic nods to 101 Dalmatians & Emma Thompson’s Baroness is a great addition to Cruella’s origin. Joel Fry as Jasper & @PaulWHauser as Horace are pure perfection, providing the comedic relief in this dark & twisted film. #Cruella pic.twitter.com/KkelGl7LVc

— Tessa Smith – Mama’s Geeky (@MamasGeeky) May 14, 2021

The fashion is to DIE for & the cinematography is incredible. @Cruella BEGS to be seen on the big screen with Emma Stone crushing it as this larger than life villain with her unique mannerisms and looks that could kill!

May 28th – in theaters & Disney+ Premier Access.#Cruella pic.twitter.com/ZmbmVn38NE

— Tessa Smith – Mama’s Geeky (@MamasGeeky) May 14, 2021

#Cruella is a tasty caper. Rich visuals and creative cinematography enhance this pithy origin story dipped in camp. Emma Stone crackles as she evolves in the titular lead opposite Emma Thompson’s tart Baroness. Joel Fry and Paul Walter Hauser make for delightful partners in crime pic.twitter.com/wrS3xLtVVY

— Simon Thompson (@ShowbizSimon) May 14, 2021

#Cruella is one of Disney’s strongest live-action remakes that gives an updated origin story for a new age whilst showcasing breathtaking fashion.

Emma Stone is wildly entertaining in the titular role as she fully commits to the villain persona in a fearless & bold performance. pic.twitter.com/cK583U6Ow5

— DiscussingFilm (@DiscussingFilm) May 14, 2021

#Cruella is all over the place. A mixed bag that isn’t sure what kind of movie it wants to be. It’s too nihilistic for some of its family-friendly Air Bud moments but also too silly for the edgy character study it wants to be. A mishmash of things that don’t flow together. pic.twitter.com/DjyHVFRUWS

— Charles Villanueva (@cfsvillanueva) May 14, 2021

Emma Stone is great and is clearly having a blast playing this version of Cruella. Emma Thompson does her best Miranda Priestly. The movie is stylish as hell, which might be its most redeeming quality.

— Charles Villanueva (@cfsvillanueva) May 14, 2021

CRUELLA tells the origin story of one of Disney’s greatest villains with a 70s punk rock style, a splash of DC comic book madness & a lot of camp. Emma Stone & Emma Thompson tear into their roles with wicked charm while the costumes are to die for! The de Vil Wears Prada indeed! pic.twitter.com/E28Lhnup3s

— Matt Neglia (@NextBestPicture) May 14, 2021

Cruella could be the biggest surprise of the summer. Bold, dark, & wonderfully anti-Disney. Emma Stone is perfection as Cruella. Hair & Makeup, Production Design & Costume Design are sure bets for Oscars noms. Paul Walter Hauser is terrific and Winks the dog is adorable. #Cruella pic.twitter.com/zPCdFXSGL3

— Scott Menzel (@ScottDMenzel) May 14, 2021

Cruella is definitely not for kids which is so refreshing to see from Disney. While I’m not entirely sure who Cruella is for, I do know that the film will build a cult following. It completely stands out on its own from all the other Disney live action films thus far.

— Scott Menzel (@ScottDMenzel) May 14, 2021

Cruella is the perfect combination of Batman Returns meets Devil Wears Prada. Did I mention the killer soundtrack and score? How about Craig Gillespie’s superb direction? Who continues to showcase his range as a filmmaker & how each film he makes feels wildly different the last.

— Scott Menzel (@ScottDMenzel) May 14, 2021

There are 2 queens in #Cruella. Emma Stone & Emma Thompson both shine in a battle of who is more wicked. Ridiculously entertaining, this story of my favorite Disney Villain, is a visual feast of 1970s London and high fashion. The film is too long, but I raise my glass to Cruella. pic.twitter.com/EokM9AHFCY

— Tania Lamb (@LolaLambchops) May 14, 2021

CRUELLA is spectacular fun. A bit long in the tooth at 2h 15m but loved Emmas Stone and Thompson chewing and gnashing at the scenery with glee. Gorgeously costumed by Jenny Beaven, an exciting score by Nicholas Britell and Paul Walter Hauser is absolutely hilarious. #Cruella

The official synopsis for Cruella:

Academy Award® winner Emma Stone (“La La Land”) stars in Disney’s “Cruella,” an all-new live-action feature film about the rebellious early days of one of cinemas most notorious – and notoriously fashionable – villains, the legendary Cruella de Vil. “Cruella,” which is set in 1970s London amidst the punk rock revolution, follows a young grifter named Estella, a clever and creative girl determined to make a name for herself with her designs. She befriends a pair of young thieves who appreciate her appetite for mischief, and together they are able to build a life for themselves on the London streets. One day, Estella’s flair for fashion catches the eye of the Baroness von Hellman, a fashion legend who is devastatingly chic and terrifyingly haute, played by two-time Oscar® winner Emma Thompson (“Howards End,” “Sense & Sensibility”). But their relationship sets in motion a course of events and revelations that will cause Estella to embrace her wicked side and become the raucous, fashionable and revenge-bent Cruella.

Cruella will debut in theaters and on Disney+ Premier on May 28th.

Game of Thrones: Broadway adaptation in the works from George R.R. Martin

Game of Thrones: Broadway adaptation in the works from George R.R. Martin
March 30, 2021 by: Steve Seigh

Saddle up your dragons, grab your shaming bell, and cross your fingers for an alternate ending because Game of Thrones is headed to Broadway.

According to THR, a dramatic stage show spectacular based on George R.R. Martin’s fantasy world is now in development, from producers Simon Painter and Tim Lawson, in partnership with Kilburn Live. And because he'll do just about anything to avoid finishing the next book in the series, George R.R. Martin will pen the story with award-winning playwright Duncan MacMillan (1984) and acclaimed director Dominic Cooke (The Courier). The creative team hopes to launch productions in New York City, London's West End, and Australia by 2023.

Unlike the many prequel projects that are currently in the works, the stage version of Game of Thrones will feature several fan-favorite characters from the original HBO series. The as-yet-untitled play is set during a pivotal moment in Westeros history, The Great Tourney at Harrenhal, a contest that took place just 16 years before the events in Game of Thrones.

“The play will for the first time take audiences deeper behind the scenes of a landmark event that previously was shrouded in mystery,” reads the play’s official description. “Featuring many of the most iconic and well-known characters from the series, the production will boast a story centered around love, vengeance, madness, and the dangers of dealing in prophecy, in the process revealing secrets and lies that have only been hinted at until now.”

In Westeros lore, the Great Tourney was held over 10 days and was considered the biggest competition event in Westeros history, with tournaments of jousting, archery, and more. It's kind of like Disney's Robin Hood, only with a lot more violence and fewer talking animals. No characters have been confirmed at this time, though Martin's previously published books state attendees of the celebration included a young, shy Ned Stark, his sister Lyanna, a teenage Jaime Lannister, an intimidating Lord Robert Baratheon, lovestruck Prince Rhaegar Targaryen, dashing Prince Oberyn Martell, and noble knight Ser Barristan Selmy, among many others. It's worth noting that Martin's Westeros timeline differs from that of the HBO series, so fans should expect some changes. Other characters that could be a part of the mix include Cersei Lannister, Tywin Lannister, Tyrion Lannister, Littlefinger, and Varys. Unfortunately, characters like Daenerys Targaryen, Jon Snow, and Arya Stark were not yet born and are unlikely to be a part of the play. Finally, in the finale of the event, Prince Rhaegar publicly declared his love for Robert's betrothed, Lyanna Stark – a move that led to Robert's Rebellion and the Targaryens being overthrown.

“The seeds of war are often planted in times of peace,” Martin said in a statement. “Few in Westeros knew the carnage to come when highborn and smallfolk alike gathered at Harrenhal to watch the finest knights of the realm compete in a great tourney, during the Year of the False Spring. It is a tourney oft referred during HBO's Game of Thrones, and in my novels, A Song of Ice & Fire … and now, at last, we can tell the whole story… on the stage.”

While talking more about the production, Martin said: “An amazing team has been assembled to tell the tale, starting with producers Simon Painter, Tim Lawson, and Jonathan Sanford. Their knowledge and love of my world and characters have impressed me from the very first, and their plans for this production blew me away since the first time we met. Dominic Cooke, our director, is a former artistic director of London's Royal Court Theatre, who brought Shakespeare's dramas of the War of the Roses to television, and our playwright, Duncan Macmillan, has previously adapted George Orwell and Henrik Ibsen, among others. Working with them (back before the pandemic, when we could actually get together) has been a treat, and I am eager for our collaboration to resume. Our dream is to bring Westeros to Broadway, to the West End, to Australia… and eventually, to a stage near you … It ought to be spectacular.”

Obviously, everybody is very excited about bringing Game of Thrones to the grand stage, but what about you? Can Martin's lengthy tale be told during an evening or two at the theater? Are you excited to see the elaborate sets, costumes, effects, and dragons? How many adult diapers will this thing require, and can you wear them comfortably underneath your outfit? Inquiring minds want to know.

“I have such admiration for George’s world and his characters,” MacMillan said, whose theatrical work includes Lungs; People, Places and Things; Every Brilliant Thing; and, of course, an adaptation of 1984. “His generosity and trust during this process has been incredible. Working on this play during lockdown has felt like a real privilege. I can’t wait until we can be back in a theatre to experience this together.”

“I am over the moon at being given the opportunity, by the dynamic producing team of Tim Lawson, Simon Painter, and Kilburn Live, to bring a new installment of George RR Martin’s epic story to a life on stage,” said Cooke, who was the Artistic Director of London’s Royal Court Theatre from 2007 to 2013. “One of George’s inspirations for the original books was Shakespeare’s history plays so the material lends itself naturally to the theatre. Duncan MacMillan and I are having a great time digging into the dynastic power struggles at the heart of George’s extraordinary imaginative world and he has been hugely generous and supportive towards both of us.”

HBO is not involved in the stage production of Game of Thrones but does have the option of investing in the project as it continues to come together.

Lil’ Krystalll – +44 Lyrics

Lambo
Insta Story

Aj Tracey – Anxious Lyrics

[Intro]
Let's go, yeah

[Chorus]
If you get my number, then don't hit me on no dumb shit
We on demon time, my little hitters make the pump click
I been anxious lately, let me hit two on my blunt quick
I leave Novikov and all these yatties wanna come with

[Post-Chorus]
I run this London town, got smoke, we double down
And we ain't runnin' into trouble, we bring trouble 'round
I smash the radio, my ragers underground
I keep my shooters cool and hold my mother down

[Verse 1]
Yeah, I just heard Drake spit this flow like yesterday, it's crazy (Drizzy)
Taxman on my back, he see my figures gettin' hazy
When I go Selfridges the gyaldem treat me, I'm Swayze
I walk in, tape my off shore, AP rosé goin' brazy (Bling, bow)
My drink is super strong, I'm blessed, I can't be wrong (I can't)
And now my niggas rap, I'm learning all their songs (That's true)
We got glizzy close, you think I'm lyin' too (I'm not)
When I'm outside, approach, my broski flying too
AJ Tracey's such a dickhead, all he do is boast (Why's that?)
He been getting drunk like everyday, he raise a toast (Facts)
I just wanted selfies, but I couldn't get in close (Why?)
When his niggas pull up, I swear them boys do the most

[Verse 2]
The way I flex is different, I got so much confidence
I shot 1942 and f*ck the consequence (Woo)
When I reach levels that I want, they'll build me monuments
And don't ask me what licks I hit, 'cause there's no documents
This Balenciaga all over my cotton knit ('Lenci)
I don't panic, when we hit the club we got the stick (We got it)
Five top tens ago my people asked me "Where's the hit?"
Now every quarter I drop songs that could've won a BRIT
I smell like oud, babe, you know this one's Saudi
I'm in 1OAK gangin', locals know I'm clouty (Yeah)
I'm recession proof, I'll run it up, so please don't doubt me
Rolex said they're getting new gems set in, so they'll shout me

Bruce Campbell may have confirmed Doctor Strange 2 cameo

Bruce Campbell may have confirmed Doctor Strange 2 cameo
March 1, 2021 by: Gaius Bolling

Sam Raimi is directing DOCTOR STRANGE IN THE MULTIVERSE OF MADNESS and usually where there is a Sam Raimi, actor Bruce Campbell is sure to follow. The duo go all the way back to Raimi’s The Evil Dead in 1981 and Campbell has been know to make cameo appearances in Raimi’s films if he’s readily available. Campbell took to Twitter recently to reveal that he just worked in London with a certain director on a certain project and it just so happens that is exactly where the Doctor Strange sequel is filming.

Posting an image of London, Campbell writes: “Boy, it was a blast, working in a certain city, with a certain director on a certain movie with a certain actor – it sure was!” You can check out Campbell’s tweet below:

Boy, it was a blast, working in a certain city, with a certain director on a certain movie with a certain actor – it sure was! pic.twitter.com/1q8pga0Miu

— Bruce Campbell (@GroovyBruce) February 27, 2021

Campbell also posted a timelapse video of a busy intersection before this tweet and many eagle eye fans realized the location was in London. This began speculation that Campbell was in the area to possibly shoot a cameo appearance in Doctor Strange 2 and Campbell’s tweet only adds more credence to that theory. Raimi is known for featuring Campbell in most of his movies after the two broke into the business together decades ago with the Evil Dead movies. In all three of Raimi’s Spider-Man movies, Campbell played different characters in amusing cameo scenes and he also appeared in Raimi’s last movie, 2013’s Oz the Great and Powerful.

Campbell has actually been teasing his potential involvement in Sam Raimi’s latest ever since the director was announced to be taking the helm of the film. At the time of the announcement Campbell tweeted. “Huh. Surely, there must be SOME character to challenge the good Doctor.” No one has officially confirmed or denied a Bruce Campbell cameo in Doctor Strange 2 but I’d put money on the fact that Campbell will definitely be making an appearance.

Do YOU think Bruce Campbell will appear in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness?

Glass: M. Night Shyamalan defends film’s ending & infamous puddle death

Glass: M. Night Shyamalan defends film’s ending & infamous puddle death
January 22, 2021 by: Gaius Bolling

2019’s GLASS had a lot to live up to given the surprise success of M. Night Shyamalan’s Split and it’s even more surprising connection to what is arguably one of his best films, Unbreakable. Suddenly we had the trilogy we didn’t know we needed and there was considerable hype surrounding how the director would combine these two worlds. The end result was a mixed bag for most, although I found Glass mostly enjoyable, others were let down by various aspects of the film. The major bone of contention is the film’s ending and one particular death involving a puddle of water that left many underwhelmed. It has now been two years since the release of Glass and, during a recent interview with “Uproxx“, Shyamalan is defending the conclusion of the film and that infamous puddle death scene.

SPOILERS AHEAD IF YOU HAVEN’T SEEN GLASS…YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!!!! Bruce Willis plays David Dunn in Glass, a character he originated in 2000’s Unbreakable. Dunn is set up as the hero of the story and is a superpowered man with unbreakable skin. He’s essentially indestructible but he does have a weakness to water and he meets a rather unceremonious end in Glass when the character is drowned to death in a puddle of water. Shyamalan went on to explain that in the interview that the strongest people can be taken down by the simplest of things:

“Well, in the end, that the simplest thing can take the strongest person down. That it’s like more of Achilles’ heel that, in the mythos of it, you don’t need an army to take down the strongest man if you know their weakness.”

Essentially water is Dunn’s kryptonite which alludes to Superman’s only real weakness. Unbreakable, Split, and Glass are essentially supposed to be more grounded and mature retellings of superhero origin stories so it makes sense that Dunn wouldn’t go out in some giant CGI battle. I can see what Shyamalan was going for but I can also see why most moviegoers would think that kind of conclusion is a bit anti-climatic considering the build-up.

Glass ultimately did decent business at the box office but poor reviews and word of mouth likely hurt a bit of its box office potential in the end. Shyamalan admitted last year that the poor reviews for Glass did get to him because he poured so much of his heart and soul into the film:

“I was in London when I heard the U.S. reviews for ‘Glass’ were poor. I was in a makeup chair for a TV show, and I cried… We’d just come back from the London screenings, which were through the roof. We had only great screenings of the movie around the world. So essentially I wasn’t prepared. I had this false sense of being a part of the group in a safe way. But boy, did I feel distraught that day. Honestly, I was feeling like, ‘Will they never let me be different without throwing me on the garbage pile?’ The feeling of worthlessness rushed me, and to be honest, it doesn’t ever really leave. But anyway, the film went on, right? It became number one in every country in the world, and it represents my beliefs.”

Shyamalan is an interesting filmmaker, mostly because he tends to go with his gut and his feelings when it comes to his projects rather than thinking about how others will perceive his vision. If you look back at some of his misfires like The Village, Lady in the Water, or The Happening, it always seems like he is really invested in the story he created and seems a bit surprised when the response isn’t as positive as he thought it should be. Perhaps some of his films are better stories than films and he could maybe use another writer to flesh out those ideas while also trimming some of the fat that simply doesn’t work.

Do YOU agree with Shymalan’s defense for the ending of Glass?

Master of None season three reportedly on the way
January 18, 2021 by: Kevin Fraser

It's been close to four years since the last season of Aziz Ansari's Master of None dropped on Netflix, but there have been rumblings that the series will be back. Master of None found Ansari starring as thirty-something actor Dev Shah as it followed his romantic, professional, and personal experiences, and according to Chortle, the series will be returning for a third season that will be shot in London.

None of this has been confirmed, so keep your salt at the ready, but Chortle also claims that Naomi Ackie (Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker) has joined the cast, possibly as Dev's latest love interest, and that Lena Waithe (Ready Player One) is also expected to return as Denise, Dev's friend. Not only that, but Chortle also says that Ansari and co-creator Alan Yang actually started shooting the third season in London last spring before they were forced to halt due to COVID-19.

RELATED: Netflix: Outside the Wire (Review)

Prior to the debut of the second season of Master of None in 2017, Aziz Ansari told Vulture that he wasn't sure whether or not they were even going to do a third season. "I wouldn’t be surprised if I needed a looonng break before I could come back to it," Ansari said. "I’ve got to become a different guy before I write a third season, is my personal thought, I’ve got to get married or have a kid or something. I don’t have anything else to say about being a young guy being single in New York eating food around town all the time." The following year found Ansari accused of sexual misconduct, and although the actor largely retreated from the public eye following the allegations, Netflix's then vice-president of original content Cindy Holland said that they "would be happy to make another season of Master of None when Aziz is ready."

Locked Down starring Anne Hathaway and Chiwetel Ejiofor (Review)
Locked Down starring Anne Hathaway and Chiwetel Ejiofor (Review)

January 13, 2021 by: Alex Maidy

Plot:  Just as they decide to separate, Linda and Paxton find life has other plans when they are stuck at home in a mandatory lockdown. Co-habitation is proving to be a challenge, but fueled by poetry and copious amounts of wine, it will bring them closer together in the most surprising way.

Review: Films and TV series set during the COVID-19 pandemic have been a mixed bag so far. Some have worked, like the Parks and Recreation special, while others (Songbird, Death to 2020) have been underwhelming. Doug Liman and Steven Knight’s LOCKED DOWN falls into the former category as a smart, funny, and timely look at the perils of quarantine that we have all gone through with the added twist of a heist plot that elevates this to an intriguing little movie. Hitting screens at just the right time, Locked Down is a perfect encapsulation of the 2020 experience with some excellent performances from Chiwetel Ejiofor and Anne Hathaway.

Filmed in London in September 2020, it is impressive how quickly this movie has been assembled, especially considering that Doug Liman’s next film, Chaos Walking, was filmed three years ago and has yet to debut. Nevertheless, Locked Down comes from a script by Steven Knight and has all of the hallmarks of being written during this pandemic. Knight’s earlier film, Locke, made sparing use of Tom Hardy in a car talking to all other characters by phone, and Locked Down feels similar. Here, couple Linda and Paxton are on the verge of mental and romantic breakdowns as they struggle with quarantine. All of their interactions are with each other or via Zoom sessions with family and coworkers. In short, Locked Down looks and feels like what we have all been doing ourselves for the last twelve months. Even though it starts two very attractive actors, Hathaway and Ejiofor do an admirable job of looking as miserable as the rest of us.

For the first two-thirds of the film, Locked Down plays like a stage production. Ejiofor’s Paxton is a convicted criminal who has struggled to find meaningful employment while his partner Linda (Hathaway) is an executive of a global corporation. Both are experiencing the pandemic lockdown in London and we find them as Linda has told Paxton she is leaving him as soon as quarantine ends. Their ten year history together weaves in and out as they both struggle with cabin fever and the challenges of being furloughed and having to fire people during one of the biggest crises in recent memory. Liman and Knight tackle everything from day drinking to Zoom connectivity issues, bread baking, and toilet paper shortages without the pandemic itself being invasive to the story. For much of the running time, Locked Down works as a relationship drama set during the coronavirus outbreak.

These Zoom sessions make great use of the supporting cast including Ben Kingsley, Mindy Kaling, Dule Hill, Jazmyn Simon, Claes Bang, Mark Gatiss, Stephen Merchant, and Ben Stiller. By featuring all of these actors remotely, production on this movie was able to focus on Hathaway and Ejiofor within close proximity to each other without needing to worry about social distancing. The in-person production gives their scenes together with a sense of immediacy and both actors share quite a bit of chemistry. Definitely an opportunity for both to run through everything from relationship drama to funnier romantic moments, both leads are enjoyable to watch and keep the film moving quickly. For ninety minutes, the movie feels like a solid character study while I kept waiting to find out how this turns into a heist story. which doesn’t kick in until the final act.

With their relationship dynamics make for good comedic and dramatic moments, the film then adds in the heist element. Doug Liman keeps things light as they execute their plan. It is worth noting that through the film, we see many shots of a vacant London and the film ends with an empty Harrod’s department store populated only by staff mostly wearing protective masks and maintaining social distancing. I never really felt that the stakes were that high but the smart dialogue and Liman’s approach to filming these sequences manage to keep you wondering just how everything is going to end. The heist ends up arbitrary to the main story that Locked Down is trying to tell and pulls away from what is otherwise a well-executed story.

Locked Down works well far better than other 2020 pandemic films because it tells a story that happens within current events without needing to make a big statement about the world at large. Decades from now, audiences may not relate as well to this story with the pandemic a memory but Steven Knight and Doug Liman have captured what COVID-19 turned the world into this last twelve months without making the virus a character. I doubt that we will suddenly see pandemic-set films of every genre, but Locked Down works well enough despite some plot points that don’t really work. Worth checking out for Anne Hathaway and Chiwetel Ejiofor’s solid acting, Locked Down is a fun and well-made movie that will make this pandemic feel a little more normal for a couple of hours.

Star Wars: Cassian Andor series now filming while Obi-wan starts in January
December 4, 2020 by: Steve Seigh

As each and every episode of The Mandalorian continues to be the talk of Twitter Town it’s no surprise that Star Wars fans are eager for any and all updates regarding Disney’s Cassian Andor and Obi-Wan Kenobi series. Recently while guesting on Jimmy Kimmel Live, Rogue One alum Diego Luna confirmed that production has already begun in London for Disney’s upcoming Cassian Andor series.

“It’s basically everything you have to know to understand Rogue One,” Luna said. “The story of the character before. I can spoil the ending I guess!” Luna then added, “It’s nice to go into a story you already know the ending. Now you can take the nuances and the layers. I think it’s fun to do something that isn’t just about getting to the end. It’s about delaying that.”

The Cassian Andor series will debut on Disney+, and is described as a “rousing spy thriller that will explore tales filled with espionage and daring missions to restore hope to a galaxy in the grip of a ruthless Empire.” Given that it’s a prequel series, Jyn Erso (Felicity Jones) is not involved but, it’s also been confirmed that Genevieve O’Reilly will appear as Mon Mothma, with Alan Tudyk reprising his Rogue One role as K-2SO. Denise Gough, Stellan Skarsgard, Kyle Soller, and Adria Arjona will also star.

In other Star Wars-related news, Production List recently posted an update that lists a January production start date for Disney’s Kenobi series, starring Ewan McGregor. McGregor, who played the role across the prequel trilogies from 1999’s Star Wars: Episode 1 – The Phantom Menace through 2005’s Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith, will lead the series, with Aladdin’s Naomi Scott rumored to be starring in a lead role. The project will be presented as a limited series for Disney+ consisting of six episodes. According to the listing, production for Kenobi will begin on January 4, with filming taking place in both Boston and London. As production settings are harsh nowadays due to the coronavirus pandemic it’s suspected that the shoots will take place indoors and on virtual sets.

Vikings creator Michael Hirst developing plague miniseries for History

Vikings creator Michael Hirst developing plague miniseries for History
November 30, 2020 by: Kevin Fraser

With Vikings set to conclude when the second half of its sixth season debuts, creator/writer Michael Hirst is looking to add another historical project to his slate. It's been announced that Hirst will be reteaming with the History Channel for a miniseries that will be centered on the bubonic plague in 17th century London; just the sort of thing the world is hungry for in the midst of a pandemic.

RELATED: Boba Fett miniseries rumored to be in development for Disney+

The Plague Year will be set in London in 1665, during one of the all-time worst outbreaks of the bubonic plague. "It’s the story of a society in turmoil, struggling to adapt to a new set of rules, finding its footing during a time of fear, paranoia, and suspicion," reads the description. "As Londoners flee in droves, those who remain in the city, whether by choice or by fate, find their resolves tested and old wounds reopened, as they are faced with an impossible question: how do you keep going when everything around you has fallen to pieces?" Coleman Herbert, best known for Rectify and The Killing, will be penning the series with Michael Hirst executive producing. In a statement, History's executive vice-president and general manager Eli Lehrer said:

History's scripted programming in development embraces our roots with premium historical miniseries that resonate with our audience and complement our event megadoc content centered on big moments throughout our history. We look forward to partnering again with the brilliant Michael Hirst and teaming with Ric Burns and our very own A+E Studios to deliver content that will entertain, enlighten, and engage our viewers’ curiosity about the past. We've been evolving our scripted business model for the brand, with a shift in focus to our legacy in big event limited-series, including both fully commissioned and co-produced projects.

History has been charting a course away from ongoing scripted shows and more towards miniseries and limited series recently. In addition to The Plague Year, they're also developing a series about the Donner Party from Ric Burns. Although Vikings will be coming to an end, Hirst is developing a sequel series, Vikings: Valhalla, for Netflix. The sequel series will be an explosive new chapter of the Vikings legend as it takes place "100 years after the original series concludes and dramatizes the adventures of the most famous Vikings who ever lived – Leif Erikson, Freydis, Harald Harada and the Norman King William the Conqueror (also a Viking descendant). These men and women will blaze new paths as they fight for survival in an ever changing and evolving Europe." Netflix has already ordered 24 episodes of Vikings: Valhalla.

Jared Leto’s Joker will have a new road-weary look in Justice League

Jared Leto’s Joker will have a new road-weary look in Justice League
November 13, 2020 by: Kevin Fraser

It’s safe to say that not everyone was a fan of Jared Leto’s take on the Joker in David Ayer’s SUICIDE SQUAD, which is why is came as a surprise when it was revealed last month that Leto was slated to reprise the role for the additional photography for Zack Snyder’s JUSTICE LEAGUE. It remains to be seen just how the Joker will factor into Snyder’s four-hour JUSTICE LEAGUE saga, but it seems that this won’t be quite the same Joker we met in SUICIDE SQUAD.

While speaking with Beyond the Trailer‘s Grace Randolph, Zack Snyder commented on Jared Leto joining the project and teased that although the film will honour the previous incarnation of the character, he will have something of a new look.

It is true. I wanted to of course honor what had been created with him because I thought it was really cool, but also in this, I’m not going to tell you what happens in the little scene, but some water has gone under the proverbial bridge between when last we saw Joker and this appearance. So he’s made some… he’s a road-weary Joker, I guess that’s a way of saying it.

As far as Jared Leto’s reaction towards reprising the role, Snyder said that the actor “was really gracious with his entertaining my idea and I told him it was a thing that I had felt like, even when I was working on Justice League in London, I felt like was an inevitable course that the movie had to take. So when I told him it was a thing that I’d been kicking around in my head for quite a while I feel like he just kinda warmed up to this idea that was kind of an inevitable thing that kinda had to happen. I am grateful and I am forever in debt to his kindness for doing it.” Although much has been said about Snyder’s additional photography for JUSTICE LEAGUE, the director added that at the end of the day, the reshoots will only amount to “about four minutes or five minutes” for the entire four-hour series.

Zack Snyder’s JUSTICE LEAGUE will debut on HBO Max in 2021.

Style Council – Homebreakers Lyrics

Good morning day, how do you do?
I wonder, what will you do for me?
I should be on my way, I should be earning pay
I should be all the things that I’m not

And I’ve tried on my own, now there’s nothing to keep me at home
Like my brother has too, gotta leave to get out of this view
You see, they tell you to move around
If you can’t find work in your own town

As I rise from my bed, I can hear the old man
Blaming heaven and Mother for this
30 Years with one firm, 13 months redundant
Yes, I’d say, that’s unlucky for some

Now our tears fall like rain, as my mother walks me to my train
With a kiss and a wave, “Come home weekends” that’s if I can save
I swear, I’ll take it out on the man
Who ever devised this economy plan

All the love in the world
Can’t put dinner on the table
All the hate that I feel
No love could put right

Good morning day, how do you do?
I wonder, what will you do for me?
I should be on my way, I should be earning pay
I should be all the things that I’m not

And I’ve tried on my own, now there’s nothing to keep me at home
All the love and the strength has been taken by this government
You see they tell you to move around
If you can’t find work in your own town

Father’s in the kitchen, counting out coins
Mother’s in the bedroom, looking through pictures of her boys
One is in London looking for a job
The other’s in Whitehall, looking for those responsible

Skylar Grey – The Devil Made Me Do It Lyrics (feat. B.o.b)

See you at the courthouse tomorrow
Gonna be some dark days to follow
Gonna tell me what I know, I know
f*cking right, I steal, beg and borrow
Onomatopoeia my sorrow
Click, click, bang, boom, oh

There’s blood on my pillow and I know it was evil
But I’m down on my knees, begging you to forgive me for the things that I done ’cause

The devil made me do it
Yeah, don’t put that shit on me
I said the devil made me do it
I got a 45 in the bible
The devil made me do it
When the good Lord let me on down
The devil made me do it, ah
The devil made me do it, yeah

Washing down the pain with a benzo
Tryna fit a body in my Enzo
The devil made me do it
When the pieces of my broken heart are sharper than a shard of glass
Nothing I can do to save you, sorry but it’s all out of my hands

That’s a sign
And I got your bitch on demon time
Clout chaser, she won’t top me off till I go live

Motorbike shorty, that’s my vibe
Do it in a section, f*ck the line, yeah
6-6-6, I’m out in London, call ’em Austin Powers umm
Then we fly them [?] in here out from Broward umm
That head educated, probably went to Howard umm
Contemplating millions off of cauliflower
Hmmm after hours
Give me demon, demon till I sleep, sleep
Devil made me do it

I’m down on my knees, begging you to forgive me for the things that I done ’cause (f*ck, f*ck, f*ck, f*ck, f*ck)

The devil made me do it (Yeah)
Yeah, don’t put that shit on me (Don’t put that shit on me, don’t put that shit on me)
I said the devil made me do it
I got a 45 in the bible (Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah)
The devil made me do it
When the good Lord let me on down
The devil made me do it, ah
The devil made me do it, yeah

Washing down the pain with a benzo
Tryna fit a body in my Enzo
The devil made me do it

Liv Tyler leaving 9-1-1: Lone Star ahead of season 2 due to COVID concerns

Liv Tyler leaving 9-1-1: Lone Star ahead of season 2 due to COVID concerns
September 23, 2020 by: Gaius Bolling

When the 9-1-1 spinoff 9-1-1: Lone Star returns for its second season, it will be without its leading lady. It has been announced that Liv Tyler, who plays Michelle Blake on the show, will not be returning for season two due to COVID-19 concerns.

The exact concerns have to do with Tyler's transatlantic traveling schedule. The actress lives in London with her partner and children, including a five-year-old and a four-year-old. Tyler had been commuting between London and Los Angeles where 9-1-1: Lone Star films. Some intricate scheduling and her kids joining her in Los Angeles for shoots during vacations allowed Tyler to successfully go back-and-forth last season without being away from her children for long.

Should things subside with the pandemic, Tyler will have a role to go back to if she so desires. Even though her season one arc on Lone Star did wrap up with her character being reunited with her missing sister after searching for her throughout the season, showrunner Tim Minear is leaving it open for Tyler to return and her character will not be recast:

"What a thrill it was having a movie star of Liv Tyler’s stature to help us launch the first season of 911: Lone Star. We loved working with Liv and will be forever indebted to her for her haunting, powerful portrayal of Michelle Blake. While we were able to tell a complete chapter in Michelle’s story, as with Connie Britton on our mothership, we also feel like there are more stories to be told. The door here will always be open for a return.”

The mention of Connie Britton is returning to the parent show of Lone Star, 9-1-1. Britton only signed a one-year deal to appear on the series and her story was wrapped up after the first season. Britton has returned to the series for short stints since her exit and the door is always open for her to return in some capacity. It appears a similar deal has been made with Tyler.

9-1-1: Lone Star features Rob Lowe as a New York firefighter that relocates to Austin, Texas with his son, where he works to save people's lives while trying to solve his own personal problems. To fill the void left by Tyler, Gina Torres will be stepping in as Paramedic Captain Tommy Vega. 9-1-1: Lone Star is tentatively slated to begin filming Season 2 on October 12, 2020.

Hugo Weaving says he originally accepted an offer to return for The Matrix 4

Hugo Weaving says he originally accepted an offer to return for The Matrix 4
September 2, 2020 by: Kevin Fraser

Although the fourth installment of THE MATRIX franchise will feature more than a few familiar faces, including Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Anne Moss, there are several that don’t seem to be involved with the new film. Hugo Weaving played Agent Smith in the original MATRIX trilogy, and although Smith was destroyed in THE MATRIX REVOLUTIONS, it would seem that the character was originally slated to return for THE MATRIX 4. Earlier this year, Weaving stated that he received an offer to return for the project but had to turn it down due to scheduling conflicts.

During an interview with ComingSoon, the actor shed a little more light on THE MATRIX 4 and the circumstances regarding his departure.

Lana Wachowski had rung me at the beginning of last year. We’ve worked together five times, the Wachowski’s and I on three Matrix films, V for Vendetta and Cloud Atlas. I’ve hung out with them all over the world for many, many years. So, yes, Lana was very keen for me to be involved in The Matrix. There was a reading with Keanu, Carrie and myself and a few others from the old family.

“I loved a lot of it and wasn’t sure about other bits,” Weaving said about the script. “Ultimately, we talked about it and when the offer came through to do it for Warner’s I said yes the next day and I talked to Lana.” Weaving added that he was slated to film for close to four months, so this wouldn’t have been a mere cameo, however, as Weaving was also scheduled to work at the National Theatre in London, Lana Wachowski decided that the dates wouldn’t line up. “So, she pulled the plug on the negotiations,” Weaving said. “That’s where it ended up. She basically didn’t feel that my commitment to the National Theatre was going to fit in with the dates that she had in mind for me.” Production on THE MATRIX 4 recently resumed after being shut down due to COVID-19, with the film slated to hit theaters on April 1, 2022.

Edgar Wright says Last Night in Soho is very different from his other films

Edgar Wright says Last Night in Soho is very different from his other films
July 6, 2020 by: Kevin Fraser

With SHAUN OF THE DEAD, HOT FUZZ, SCOTT PILGRIM VS. THE WORLD, THE WORLD’S END, and more, we’ve come to know and appreciate Edgar Wright‘s distinctive style and comedic timing, but it seems that the director’s next film will be an entirely different beast. LAST NIGHT IN SOHO is said to be a psychological thriller set in London which Wright says has been influenced by both Nicolas Roeg‘s DON’T LOOK NOW and Roman Polanski‘s REPULSION, and while speaking with Empire, Wright said that the upcoming film will feel very different when compared to his previous work.

It will feel very different to my other films. But I’ve always liked films which have a slow burn into something else, and a lot of my movies have that feeling. Last Night starts in a more psychological realm and then starts to get increasingly intense as it goes along. And I always like to gravitate towards making a film in genres I miss, and there’s a certain type of psychological horror film that you got more in the ‘60s and ‘70s, that have something of an operatic nature. I’m using that kind of visual grammar.

RELATED: Edgar Wright to helm adaptation of kidnapping thriller The Chain

Much of LAST NIGHT IN SOHO is being kept under wraps, it will center on three characters: Eloise (Thomasin McKenzie), an aspiring fashion designer, Sandy (Anya Taylor-Joy), a rising singer, and the dapper Jack (Matt Smith). Speaking of the latter two characters, Empire has an exclusive image of the pair which you can check out below.

Anya Taylor-Joy, Thomasin McKenzie, and Matt Smith, LAST NIGHT IN SOHO also stars Michael Ajao (ATTACK THE BLOCK), Synnøve Karlsen (Medici), Diana Rigg (Game of Thrones), Terence Stamp (MURDER MYSTERY), and Rita Tushingham (BEING JULIA). “I realised I had never made a film about central London – specifically Soho, somewhere I’ve spent a huge amount of time in the last 25 years,” Wright said in a statement when the project was announced. “With Hot Fuzz and Shaun Of The Dead you make movies about places you’ve lived in. This movie is about the London I’ve existed in.”

LAST NIGHT IN SOHO will hit theaters on April 23, 2021.

What’s New to Watch on Blu-ray: Pennyworth, Portrait of a Lady on Fire

What’s New to Watch on Blu-ray: Pennyworth, Portrait of a Lady on Fire
June 26, 2020 by: Steve Seigh

Earlier this week, a batch of shiny new Blu-rays hit the shelves, and I'm here to remind you of what you might've missed. While this week's offerings are sparse, there are at least a few releases worth checking out. Let's make a short list of them, shall we?

To begin, the first season of Epix's PENNYWORTH is now available to own on Blu-ray. Created by Bruno Heller, this episodic spy thriller tells the origin story of Batman's Alfred Pennyworth, a former special-forces soldier living in London who eventually came to work for Bruce Wayne's father. The series stars Jack Bannon as Alfred Pennyworth; Ben Aldridge as Thomas Wayne; and Hainsley Lloyd Bennett as Deon 'Bazza' Bashford, among others.

Another title that's now availble is director Céline Sciamma's PORTRAIT OF A LADY ON FIRE. Starring Noémie Merlant, Adèle Haenel, Luàna Bajrami and Valeria Golino, this foreign drama takes place on an isolated island in Brittany at the end of the eighteenth century, where female painter is obliged to paint a wedding portrait of a young woman. While that might sound as exciting as Batman-related spies, I'll have you know that the film looks rather compelling, and that I'll be picking up a copy of it for sure.

Other releases that have hit the open market this past Tuesday include Criterion's release of TOKYO OLYMPIAD, SOUTH PARK: SEASON 23, and THE ROAD TO WELVILLE.

Click on any of the covers below to see what else is up for grabs, then just select the film you want to watch and we'll transport you to our Amazon store!

Also, don't forget to check out our WATCH MOVIES section, which highlights many of the films coming to Amazon Prime during the month of June!

Millie Bobby Brown is on the case in new images from Netflix’s Enola Holmes
June 25, 2020 by: Kevin Fraser

Here’s one I had forgotten about; Based on the Enola Holmes Mysteries by Nancy Springer, Netflix’s upcoming ENOLA HOLMES finds Millie Bobby Brown (Stranger Things) starring as the title character, the younger sister of Sherlock and Mycroft Holmes. The film follows the young heroine as she awakes on her 16th birthday to discover that her mother (Helena Bonham Carter) has vanished and an assortment of gifts has been left behind, but with no apparent clues as to the whereabouts of her mother. Now in the care of her two older brothers who want to ship her off to a finishing school, Enola escapes through London to find her mom.

Entertainment Weekly and Total Film has dropped a handful of photos from the upcoming film, which also feature Henry Cavill (The Witcher) as Sherlock Holmes and Sam Claflin (Peaky Blinders) as Mycroft Holmes. Check ’em out below!

RELATED: Henry Cavill to play Sherlock opposite Millie Bobby Brown in Enola Holmes

Director Harry Bradbeer (Killing Eve) told Total Film that ENOLA HOLMES struck him as “a fresh approach in a number of ways” compared to the other Holmes-related adaptations over the years. “There was the fact that there was a sister that people probably hadn’t considered existed, and that automatically brings the whole feminist stance and a feminist angle on the Holmes story, which was particularly interesting to me, as Holmes was thought of as being someone who was a little bit of a misogynist,” Bradbeer added.

ENOLA HOLMES is expected to debut on Netflix in September 2020.

Rose Royce – Show Me lyrics

Ah yes baby you know
I have a Rolls Royce
A Mercedes Benz
And a yacht out in marina
Maybe we can take a trip
And you know

Just go out to the Bahamas
Or Paris, or London, you know
I know all the stars, baby
In fact, Sugar Ray is a personal friend of mine
In fact, just the other day I was sayin’
Sugar, you know you and i should just stop by sometime

You told me about your fancy cars
You told me all your friends were stars
You said that we could get away
Maybe take a holiday

I hope that it won’t be too long
You saw that i could sing a song
You got this and you got that
And i’ll end up flat on my back
Oh you got to show me, show me

Show me baby It ain’t no lie
Show me baby In front of my eyes
Show me baby It ain’t no lie
Show me baby In front of my eyes

You know that you’re my only girl
If i could, i’ll give you the world
You said baby you just stick with me
And one day you’ll surely see
No more wastin’ my time

You got yours, keep your hands off mine boy
Baby, you got to make me see
You got to show me what you’re tellin’ me
You told me about your fancy cars
You told me all your friends were stars
You said that we could get away (get away boy)
Maybe take a holiday

I hope that it won’t be too long, no
You saw that i could sing a song
You got this and you got that
And i’ll end up flat on my back
No more wastin’ my time
You got yours, keep your hands off mine boy
Baby you got to make me see
You got to show what you’re tellin’ me

Show me baby It ain’t no lie
Show me baby In front of my eyes
Show me baby It ain’t no lie
Show me baby In front of my eyes
Show me baby, show me baby
You got to show me boy
Show me baby, show me baby…

Leslie Bricusse – Jekyll And Hyde Concept Album – Facade lyrics

[ENSEMBLE]
If you live around here
You need cash in the bank
‘Cause the houses ’round here
Are all flashy and swank
An’ the front bit, ha
‘at’s what’s called a facade!

All the people ’round here
Are as posh as can be
You won’t seem hobnobbin’
With rubbish like me
It’s the snob bit
Also called a facade

Every day
People, in their own sweet way
Like to add a coat of paint
And be what they ain’t!

That’s how our little –
Game is played
Livin’ out their masquerade
Getting rich and getting laid
Who’d want to trade?

But there’s one thing I know
And I know it for sure:
This disease that we’ve got
Has got no ready cure!
And I’m certain
Life is terribly hard
When your life’s a facade!

Every night here one house
Or another is a funhouse
‘Cause there’s someone giving a party
As you see, sir!

This one here tonight
Is rather special, am I right?
It’s the betrothal of Sir Danver’s
Daughter, Lisa

Sir Danvers Carew is a good man
They call him the creme de la creme
Whatever that means
He’s a bloody sight better than them!

Nearly everyone you meet
When walking down a London street
Pretends to be a pillar of society

A model of propriety
Sobriety, and piety
Who’s never even heard of notoriety

The ladies an’ gents ‘ere before you
Which none of ’em ever admits
May have saintly looks
But they’re sinners an’ crooks!

Hypocrites!

If you live around here
You need lots of panache
If you live in down, dear
Then you must cut a dash
T’isn’t hard, dear
To create a facade

You must seem to be rich
And to have money to burn
Even though it’s a bitch
Spending more than you earn
That’s the game here
And the name is facade

One or two
Might look kinda well-to-do
But I bet you precious few
Have payed for their boots

I’m inclined to think –
Half mankind thinks the other
Half is blind
Wouldn’t be surprised to find
They’re all in cahoots

At the end of the day
They don’t mean what they say
They don’t say what they mean
They don’t ever come clean
And the answer
Is it’s all a facade

Call a walk promenade
Call a street boulevard
Grease your hair with pomade
You’ll be held in regard

And I betcha
If you stay on your guard (stay on your guard)
They’ll all say you’re a card
People love the facade (stay on your guard)
What’s behind the facade?

[JEKYLL]
Look behind the facade

Leslie Bricusse – Jekyll And Hyde Concept Album – The Engagement Party lyrics

[SIR DANVERS]
My dear Simon
You’re so gracious
To wish Lisa and Henry both well

[STRIDE]
Dear Sir Danvers
As you know, Sir
I wish Lisa the sun and the moon
But I have to confess that I wish Henry Jekyll in hell!

[UTTERSON]
(spoken) Henry, at last. What could possibly be more important than your own engagement party?

[JEKYLL]
John, I am close to a breakthrough discovery!
Something spectacular, something sublime!
Finally, a light in the darkness has come to me!
Now it is only a matter of time!

[DR HASTIE LANYON]
Henry Jekyll, you’re a devil
You have robbed us of London’s most lovely girl

[MR RICHARD ENFIELD]
I could turn to drink when I stop to think
Lisa’s marrying a doctor instead of an earl

[BOTH]
Poor girl!

[STRIDE ]
Doctor Jekyll, may I be the first to wish
You and your bride-to-be
Peace and prosperity?

[JEKYLL]
Mr. Stride, it’s most civil of you
To say that, as you do
With such patent sincerity!

David Brent – Slough lyrics

More convenient that a Tesco express
Close to Windsor but the properties less
Keeps the businesses of Britain great
It’s got Europe’s biggest trading estate

It doesn’t matter where you’re from
You wanna work? Then come along
The station’s just got a new floor
And the motorway runs by your door

And you know just where you’re heading
It’s equidistance ‘tween London and Reading

Oh Slough
My kind of town
I don’t know how, anyone could put you down

To the West you got Taplow and Bray
You got Hillingdon the other way
It’s a brilliant place to live and work
It was in Bucks now officially it’s Berks

Don’t listen to what the critics say
Like it’s soulless, and boring and grey
See for yourself, what you waiting for?
We’re on the Bath road, that’s the A4

And you know just where you’ll be heading
It’s equidistance ‘tween London and Reading

Oh Slough
My kind of town
I don’t know how, anyone could put you down

Oh Slough
My kind of town
I don’t know how, anyone could put you down

Radiohead – Anyone Can Play Guitar

Destiny, destiny protect me from the world
Destiny, hold my hand protect me from the world
Here we are with our running and confusion
And I don’t see no confusion anywhere

And if the world does turn
And if London burns I’ll be standing on the beach with my guitar
I wanna be in a band when I get to heaven
Anyone can play guitar
And they won’t be a nothing anymore

Grow my hair, grow my hair
I am Jim Morrison
Grow my hair
I wanna be wanna be wanna be Jim Morrison

Here we are with our running and confusion
And I don’t see no confusion anywhere
And if the world does turn
And if London burns I’ll be standing on the beach with my guitar
I wanna be in a band when I get to heaven
Anyone can play guitar
And they won’t be a nothing anymore

Ralph Mctell – Streets Of London lyrics

Have you seen the old man
In the closed-down market
Kicking up the paper,
With his worn out shoes?
In his eyes you see no pride
Hand held loosely at his side
Yesterday’s paper telling yesterday’s news

So how can you tell me you’re lonely,
And say for you that the sun don’t shine.
Let me take you by the hand and lead you through the streets of London
I’ll show you something to make you change your mind

Have you seen the old girl
Who walks the streets of London
Dirt in her hair and her clothes in rags?
She’s no time for talking,
She just keeps right on walking
Carrying her home in two carrier bags.

So how can you tell me you’re lonely,
And say for you that the sun don’t shine.
Let me take you by the hand and lead you through the streets of London
I’ll show you something to make you change your mind

In the all night cafe
At a quarter past eleven,
Same old man sitting there on his own
Looking at the world
Over the rim of his tea-cup,
Each tea lasts an hour
Then he wanders home alone

So how can you tell me you’re lonely,
Don’t say for you that the sun don’t shine.
Let me take you by the hand and lead you through the streets of London
I’ll show you something to make you change your mind

Have you seen the old man
Outside the Seaman’s Mission
Memory fading with the medal ribbons that he wears
In our winter city,
The rain cries a little pity
For one more forgotten hero
And a world that doesn’t care

So how can you tell me you’re lonely,
And say for you that the sun don’t shine.
Let me take you by the hand and lead you through the streets of London
I’ll show you something to make you change your mind

MC Hammer – U Can’t Touch This

Can’t touch this
Can’t touch this
Can’t touch this (oh-oh oh oh oh-oh-oh)
Can’t touch this (oh-oh oh oh oh-oh-oh)

My-my-my-my music makes me so hard makes me say oh my Lord
Thank you for blessing me with a mind to rhyme and two hype feet
That’s good when you know you’re down
A super dope homeboy from the Oaktown
And I’m known as such
And this is a beat uh u can’t touch

I told you homeboy u can’t touch this
Yeah that’s how we’re livin’ and you know u can’t touch this
Look in my eyes man u can’t touch this
You know let me bust the funky lyrics u can’t touch this

Fresh new kicks and pants
You got it like that now you know you wanna dance
So move out of your seat
And get a fly girl and catch this beat
While it’s rollin’ hold on pump a little bit
And let me know it’s going on like that like that
Cold on a mission so pull on back
Let ’em know that you’re too much
And this is a beat uh u can’t touch

Yo I told you u can’t touch this
Why you standing there man u can’t touch this
Yo sound the bells school is in sucker u can’t touch this

Give me a song or rhythm
Making ’em sweat that’s what I’m giving ’em
Now they know when you talk about the Hammer
You talk about a show that’s hyped and tight
Singers are sweatin’ so pass them a mic
Or a tape to learn what it’s gonna take
And now he’s gonna burn
The charts legit either work hard
Or you might as well quit

That’s word because you know
Can’t touch this (oh-oh oh oh-oh-oh)
Can’t touch this (oh-oh oh oh-oh-oh)
Break it down
(Oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh oh-oh)
(Oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh oh-oh)
Stop Hammer time

Go with the flow in a spin if you can’t move to this
Then you probably are dead
So wave your hands in the air
Bust through the moves run your fingers through your hair
This is it for a winner

Move slide your rump
Just for a minute let’s all do the bump
Bump bump bump yeah

You’ll probably get hyped boy ’cause you know you can’t u can’t touch this
Ring the bell school’s back in break it down
(Oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh)
(Oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh)
Stop Hammer time
(Oh-oh oh oh oh-oh-oh)
(Oh-oh oh oh oh-oh-oh)
(Oh-oh oh-oh oh-oh oh-oh)
(Oh-oh oh oh oh-oh-oh) u can’t touch this
(Oh-oh oh oh oh-oh-oh) u can’t touch this
(Oh-oh oh oh oh-oh-oh) u can’t touch this
(Oh-oh oh oh oh-oh-oh) break it down
(Oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh)
(Oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh)
Stop Hammer time

Every time you see me that Hammer’s just so hype
I’m dope on the floor and I’m magic on the mic
Now why would I ever stop doing this
With others makin’ records that just don’t hit
I toured around the world from London to the bank
It’s Hammer go Hammer
It’s a Hammer yo Hammer and the rest go and play

Can’t touch this (oh-oh oh oh oh-oh-oh)
Can’t touch this (oh-oh oh oh oh-oh-oh)
Can’t touch this (oh-oh oh-oh-oh)
Yeah u can’t touch this
I told you u can’t touch this (oh-oh oh-oh-oh)
Too hype can’t touch this
Get me outta here u can’t touch this
(Oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh)

Dire Straits – In The Gallery lyrics

Harry made a bareback rider proud and free upon a horse
And a fine coalminer for the NCB that was
A fallen angel and Jesus on the cross
A skating ballerina you should have seen her do the skater’s waltz
Some people have got to paint and draw
Harry had to work iin clay and stone
Like the waves coming to the shore
It was in his blood and in his bones
Ignored by all the trendy boys in London and in Leeds
He might as well have been making toys or strings of beads
He could not be in the gallery
And then you get an artist says he doesn’t want to paint at all
He takes an empty canvas and sticks it on the wall
The birds of a feather all the phonies and all of the fakes
While the dealers they get together
And they decide who gets the breaks
And who’s going to be in the gallery
No lies he wouldn’t compromise
No junk no bits of string
And all the lies we subsidise
That just don’t mean a thing
I’ve got to say he passed away in obscurity
And now all the vultures are coming down from the tree
So he’s going to be in the gallery
