Star Wars May the 4th celebratory content coming to Disney+
May 3, 2021 by: Steve Seigh

May the 4th, otherwise known as Star Wars Day, is nearly upon us! That means it’s time to throw your robes in the wash and change the batteries in your lightsaber because this year’s celebration is going to be one for the books. On Star Wars Day, Disney+ will release a brand-new original Star Wars series, Star Wars: The Bad Batch; a first-of-its-kind Star Wars-themed short from The Simpsons; and multiple themed cinematic experiences in celebration of a galaxy far, far away.

Steel yourselves, my Padawans, because your Disney+ subscription is about to be worth all the credits you’ve been paying for it.

Per today’s exciting Star Wars Day press release:

As a special treat for fans, Disney+ will debut Maggie Simpson in ‘The Force Awakens From Its Nap, a new Star Wars-inspired short, bringing characters from the Star Wars galaxy to the fictional town of Springfield. The new promotional short is the first of several from The Simpsons that Disney+ will release throughout the year paying tribute to the service’s marquee brands and titles.

Additionally, to celebrate the creativity and artistry of the Star Wars community, Lucasfilm and Disney+ have commissioned original artwork to take over the service for several days – a first for the platform. A global group of artists and Star Wars fans has created illustrations representing an assortment of Star Wars movies and original series, bringing them to life in their own unique styles. The artwork will be featured on the service until May 9 and will also be available for purchase through Amazon.

Premiering May 4, 2021 at 12:00am PT

Star Wars: The Bad Batch

The series follows the elite and experimental clones of the Bad Batch (first introduced in “The Clone Wars”) as they find their way in a rapidly changing galaxy in the immediate aftermath of the Clone War. Members of Bad Batch – a unique squad of clones who vary genetically from their brothers in the Clone Army — each possess a singular exceptional skill that makes them extraordinarily effective soldiers and a formidable crew. In the post-Clone War era, they will take on daring mercenary missions as they struggle to stay afloat and find a new purpose.

Star Wars: The Bad Batch trailer and May 4th launch date unveiled

Star Wars: The Bad Batch trailer and May 4th launch date unveiled
March 30, 2021 by: Steve Seigh

Today, Disney+ unveiled a new trailer for its animated series from Lucasfilm, Star Wars: The Bad Batch, which is now set to premiere on Star Wars Day, May 4th.

The series follows the elite and experimental clones of the Bad Batch (first introduced in The Clone Wars) as they find their way in a rapidly changing galaxy in the immediate aftermath of the Clone War. Members of Bad Batch — a unique squad of clones who vary genetically from their brothers in the Clone Army — each possess a singular exceptional skill, which makes them extraordinarily effective soldiers and a formidable crew. In the post-Clone War era, they will take on daring mercenary missions as they struggle to stay afloat and find their place in a galaxy far, far away.

In addition to introducing us to the Clone Force 99 crew – Hunter, Echo, Tech, and Wrecker – the trailer also highlights The Mandalorian’s Fennec Shaw (Ming-Na Wen), who appears in the new show.

If you ask me, Star Wars: The Bad Batch looks super slick. Each character, as well as the world, has been given a spit shine, and the Clone Wars universe has never looked better. Fans can expect plenty of jaw-dropping visuals in addition to meaningful character moments from the new team. The Bad Batch may be under the thumb of the Empire at the start, but soon they’ll break the chains that bind them and strike out on their own.

Star Wars: The Bad Batch will premiere with a special 70-minute episode, with new episodes arriving every Friday, starting May 7th.

Stormtrooper with toy blaster taken down by cops on Star Wars Day

Stormtrooper with toy blaster taken down by cops on Star Wars Day
May 7, 2020 by: Gaius Bolling

I don’t think the Alberta police got the memo that Monday was STAR WARS Day because they took a Stormtrooper down to the ground for carrying a toy blaster.

A bar in Alberta, Canada was celebrating “May the Fourth Be With You” outdoors in their parking lot when the cosplaying got very real for a female employee dressed as a Stormtrooper. According to reports via “TMZ“, someone in the area assumed that the teenage girl in the Stormtrooper suit was carrying a real weapon and called local law enforcement. Police quickly arrived with their guns aimed directly at the young woman, who immediately followed orders and dropped the toy gun.

Despite the person in question obeying orders, they were not able to get down on the ground fast enough for the police and they began to lose their cool. In the video, which you can see below, the woman was attempting to get on the ground but law enforcement used extra force (unfortunately not “The Force” we’ve all come to know and love from the films) to get her all the way down to the ground and the end result was a bloody nose during the ordeal because she claims the officers slammed her face on the pavement.

It’s not clear why Alberta police reacted so strongly to the 19-year Stormtrooper, especially since she was complying with all of their orders. Law enforcement released the following statement about the matter:

“Upon police arrival, the subject dropped the weapon but did not initially comply with further police directions to get down on the ground. The weapon was ultimately confirmed to be a fake firearm and the female subject, who indicated she was an employee promoting a local business, was not charged. The female sustained a minor injury but did not require medical attention.”

After viewing social media and video footage, an investigation has been launched to look into the police actions during the incident. It’s also clear from the video that the Stormtrooper costume made it difficult for her to get down to the ground quickly due to how bulky the outfit is. This is a matter that seemed to be confirmed by her boss Bradley Whalen, who said: “She kept yelling at them that she couldn’t kneel down because, in that Stormtrooper costume, you can’t even sit down in it, like it’s impossible to sit down. You could tell by looking at it, even 10 feet away, that it was a plastic toy.”

Can you imagine being this girl? You wake up and get ready for work, most likely being told it’s mandatory to dress in a STAR WARS costume for the day at the bar and you end up getting taken down by the cops? Sure, it’s now a viral story but you also get a bloody nose so I guess you have to take the good with the bad on this one.

What are YOUR thoughts on the video?
